ABSTRACT

Students' opinions are among the critical indicators to evaluate the university teaching process. However, due to the absence of an official online system in most universities that provides a mechanism for obtaining students' opinions on several university announcements, most students use various social networks to express their feelings and provide their opinions toward these announcements. We present, through this paper, sentiment analysis of Facebook comments written in the Moroccan Arabic dialect. These comments reflect the opinions of students about university announcements during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those related to teaching mode and ex-am planning. Then, the comments collected were cleaned, preprocessed, and manually classified into four categories, namely positive, neutral, negative, and bipolar. Further, data dimensionality reduction is applied using TF-IDF and Chi-square test. Finally, we evaluated the performance of three standard classifiers, i.e., Naïve Bayesian (NB), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Random Forests (RF) using k-fold cross-validation. The results showed that the SVM-based classifier performs as well as the RF-based classifier regarding the classification's accuracy and F1-score, while the NB-based classifier lags behind them. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The accelerated adoption of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity for the exploration of college student acceptance of online learning. We examine whether previous experience with online learning results in students' greater acceptance of this modality as a valid educational experience. Findings are generated using original survey data from Park University undergraduate and graduate students. Our results have the potential to guide faculty and administrators regarding how online learning might be introduced and promoted, the pace at which their institution might adopt this modality, and the configuration of online learning that might work best for their students. © 2023, North American Business Press. ABSTRACT

With the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for examining the effect of distance education process, where millions of students have been caught unprepared, on Turkish education has arisen. It is rather important to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the education in this process and to give the right direction to the process by overcoming the existing problems. In accordance with this purpose, the opinions of the students in secondary school eighth grade during the pandemic have been taken regarding the Turkish education and preparation process for high school entrance exam in this period. Case study, one of the qualitative research methods, have been used in this research. The data has been collected by using an interview form. The findings of the research have been examined by being categorized in line with the questions in the interview form and presented respectively. Distance education has some shortcomings due to certain reasons in terms of Turkish lesson. Many reasons such as the lack of technological knowledge of the students and teachers, the difficulty to access technological tools, communication difficulties in distance education, have reduced the students' interest in the Turkish lessons and negatively affected the preparation process for the high school entrance exam. It has been observed that the most important effect of the current situation is the loss of motivation of the students. © CRES 2022.All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The detrimental impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental education prompted the Scottish Government to fund an additional year to the dental course to ensure that the students had the necessary clinical experience. The aim of the study was to better understand the final year student perceptions of this extension on their oral surgery experience at the University of Dundee. METHODS: This mixed methods study consisted of an anonymous online questionnaire and a focus group. RESULTS: Forty-one students (69.3%) completed the questionnaire and ten students participated in the focus group. Thirty-six (88.8%) students agreed that the oral surgery teaching provided sufficient knowledge to undertake independent practice. All of the students felt confident to carry out an extraction, and the majority of them (n = 40, 95%) felt confident to remove a retained root, however, their confidence with surgery was lower. CONCLUSION: The extension gave the students sufficient experience in oral surgery to gain confidence in clinical skills and an appropriate level of knowledge in preparation for the next phase of their career. Most of the students agreed that the extension was necessary and beneficial. This cohort graduated with more oral surgery experience than any of the students did in the previous 4 years from Dundee and with experience that was comparable with the students at other schools in the pre-COVID-19 era.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 affected educational activities around the world. In this scenario, online teaching was the main strategy adopted by Brazilian universities. The literature presents possibilities and boundaries to physics teaching on distance learning modality. In this context, this article aimed to investigate the opinion from a group of physics undergraduate students to have an overview of challenges for Brazilian universities. This group had the face-to-face classes changed abruptly to online modality. An electronic quiz was conducted to analyse data based on Content Analysis procedures. The group believes in the potential of online teaching during the pandemic time, but agrees that several aspects need to change. The students report that they have faced problems related to technical, pedagogical, and socioeconomic aspects. As consequence of distance learning modality, students have presented symptoms of anxiety, depression, and lack of motivation. The group points out professor training as a focus that might help improve online teaching © Copyright by Sociedade Brasileira de Física. Printed in Brazil
